The Annual Science Expo was held May 9th within the grounds of JFK's annex and was participated in by public schools island-wide.The Expo, which was started ten years ago by a group of science teachers who wanted to increase students' as well as public interest in science, celebrated it's tenth year anniversary. According to Mrs. Dana Figirlyong, this years science Expo coordinator, the Expo gets better and better every year,"This year we have been able to get enough medals so that so that every child gets a medal or ribbon for entering. Also, more and more schools are participating, and only three out of all Guam's public schools did not participate this year,"she comments. One of the big differences in this year's Expo from past years is DFS sponsorship of the event."This year, DFS is sponsoring us so teachers don't have to go out spending time trying to get resources like money or prizes.... So we can spend more time with our students in the classroom," Figirlyong stated. particpants in the Science Expo received books, grab bags, medals, and the winners received trophies. In the high school competition, three JFK students placed in the Physical Science and Group project divisions. They were sophomores Sanjay, Sharma, and Rodalyn Gerardo, and freshman Anthony Lau.
