Accuracy Counts

The local newspaper, the Pacific Daily News, published a favorable article today, July 7, 1997, and if you think accuracy matters, then I need to explain a quote that was improperly translated.

When Juvy Gao-Ay asked about 'traffic' to virtualguam, I told her that my log reports (May 1997 or July 1997) show an average of more than 8,000 'hits' per day. Juvy translated that in her article to say 'He estimates that more than 8,000 people connect to the site daily.'

What's the difference? A raw 'hit' occurs everytime a person requests any page. Additionally, every image or graphic on the page requested will generate an additional hit. Some of my pages, because they are so content rich (lots of pictures) will generate 30 to 40 hits every time someone requests the page.

So, now you probably want to know how many people really do visit the server, right? Based on the same log reports, virtualguam has had more than 200 visitors per day. (the term used in the reports is 'hosts')

Big difference between 8,000 people and 200 people, huh? I know, that's why I put this page up...

Either way, I still maintain that virtualguam is the MOST-POPULAR Guam-related server on the internet. Check out the current guestbook, and the archived guestbooks, and prove it to yourself. And, since the other Guam related servers aren't publishing comparative log reports, there is no proof to the contrary.

To all you hundreds of visitors generating thousands of hits, Thank You for your continued support!
